SOLAR STATION is a monitoring station for your photovoltaic power plant. On the e-ink display, it shows every 5 minutes information retrieved from the inverter manufacturer's cloud.

We support inverters:

Only installations with one inverter are supported. Complex Master - Slave installations are not supported. If you are unsure, please feel free to post an inquiry.

So as long as you have an inverter and the login credentials for that inverter to the portal listed, SOLAR STATION will work.

SOLAR STATION does not require the installation of any additional device (MODBUS converter, etc.). It only needs internet (WiFi) and cloud login credentials to connect. The login credentials are stored on the device and are only used for authentication against the manufacturer's cloud, they are not handled further. SOLAR STATION can therefore be kept at home or even at work in the office.

What is shown on the display?

  1. The photovoltaic tile shows the current power, today yield, total yield and strings power (if available).
  2. The battery tile contains the percentage of battery charge. The small value then represents the current usage of the battery - positively charging, negatively discharging.
  3. The consumption tile displays the current household consumption. It is the sum of panel production, battery production and grid purchases.
  4. The purchase and sales tile shows the actual electricity usage from the grid. The power plant symbol represents purchase, and the heart symbol represents grid feed-in and independence.
  5. The tile forecasts the weather for today and the next 4 days. Today's day is highlighted in a darker colour.
  6. Sunrise and sunset tiles show the sunrise and sunset times for today.
  7. The SOLAR PLUG tile shows in current power and total energy of SOLAR PLUG.
  8. The spot price tile shows the price for the current hour. Various sources are available.

What is e-ink?

E-ink display works similarly to the famous children's toy - GRAFO. Anything that is drawn on the display stays there forever until it is shaken. In the case of e-ink, that means an electrical charge. An e-ink display only consumes electricity to redraw it, then it doesn't. You may know it from the Kindle reader. The last image is displayed on it forever.

Why doesn't it communicate directly with the inverter?

This is a very common question. Yes, it can communicate directly with the inverter. But the setup is not user trivial. You usually need some additional MODBUS converter or the device needs to be within range of the inverter and its weak WiFi. On the other hand, the cloud-based solution, which you actually use in a mobile app, fits perfectly into the philosophy of the e-ink display, which benefits from not very frequent redrawing, but provides zero power consumption instead. This allows the SOLAR STATION to last a long time without a charge.

Will this work for me?

I hope so. You just need login credentials for cloud (same as mobile app). Thats it.

Is it hard to set up?

I tried to make it as simple as possible. Worst case scenario, read the instructions. SOLAR STATION out of the box and turned on, it will start broadcasting its own network to which you connect. Once connected, a setup page will pop up (or open it at http://192.168.4.1) and it will walk you through the setup. All you need is a password for your WiFi and the manufacturer's cloud login. And you also enter the location for the weather.

What's inside?

For the tech geeks: The device is built around the ESP32 and GoodDisplay e-ink.

How long does it last charged?

Long. I've tried it and it lasted weeks. Like six or more. But it depends a lot on the quality of the WiFi signal. If the device wakes up, it needs to figure everything out, redraw and go to sleep as fast as possible. It needs ideal conditions to do that. The device is not fully connected to Repeater or Mesh. Technical: For Mesh networks, we recommend a fixed AP allocation.

How does it charge?

SOLAR STATION has a LiPo battery (2500mAh) inside and is equipped with a charger. Charging is done via the USB-C port. The cable is not included. I believe you already have one at home.

What is the box made of?

The SOLAR STATION box is made with 3D printing technology. 3D printing does not reach the quality of injection molding and needs to be approached anyway. We always try to make sure that the view side is without major defects. The back side may contain slight defects, we are tolerant there. After all, it is the side next to the wall. For technical scourals, it is PLA material and we print with a 0.2mm layer.

What if the device stops displaying the correct data? What if the inverter manufacturer changes something? Will it work?

I've given this a lot of thought, and the result is that the device checks to see if it has the current firmware after boot. So if the inverter manufacturers change something, just email me, we'll check and modify the firmware, which SOLAR STATION will then download and install itself.

What's in the package?

English instructions, SOLAR STATION, 2pcs wall mounts with 3M tape and a printed box that can be used as a stand.

What is the operating voltage?

It is powered by a 3.7V battery.

What are the dimensions?

152 x 121 x 14 mm.

Do you want big or small?

Both SOLAR STATION display exactly the same data. Only with the larger one the numbers are simply bigger. It fits perfectly on the wall here. But the larger display has a poorer resolution, so the text looks jagged up close, but from a distance it looks perfect. Nothing to worry about, it just needs to be mentioned.

What's the guarantee?

It's probably a statutory one. Plus, I do SOLAR STATION for my pleasure and yours. If anything goes wrong, please get in touch. If you don't like it, we'll refund your money. We are not scammers, we are a normal family from Zlin.
